Social Factor
Finding Your Future at SF: Where Growth Meets Opportunity
As a fully remote company, we understand the unique challenges of working in a virtual setting, and we’ve built a thriving, supportive team that proves that distance doesn’t diminish connection. Our diverse organization includes moderation and care, analytics, strategy, tech solutions, and more — powered by teams and empowering individuals as a critical part of them.
With November being Career Development Month, we want to highlight two exceptional team members who have been instrumental to our success: Alex L., Language Community Moderator, and Marcel B., Lead Community Moderator.
We asked both Alex L. and Marcel B. about the key moments and decisions in their careers, which, in turn, have helped shape their current path at Social Factor. Each of them has a special story, with pivotal experiences that reflect their passions and alignment with our values.
Alex’s journey at Social Factor began unexpectedly just a year ago, but her career in social impact and digital marketing spans over a decade. Alex founded an ocean conservation nonprofit, Fins and Fluke, twelve years ago. She not only led the organization but also managed its social media presence. It was during that time that Alex discovered her passion for social care and honed her skills in brand management, moderation, and content creation.
In the early days of her career, Alex led multiple campaigns that taught her the art of managing high volumes of engagement while building earnest relationships with donors. She believes that “people are far more willing to engage with a brand if it comes across as sincere and heartfelt.” This emphasis on authentic communication and connection made Alex an ideal fit for SF, where we prioritize real, meaningful interactions.
Now, as a Language Community Moderator at SF, Alex blends her experience in social impact with her passion for community care. She helps maintain communication across various language communities, fostering positive and meaningful engagement. Alex shared how much she values the company’s inclusive, remote-first culture. She particularly appreciates how SF embraces diversity and creates an environment where everyone feels valued — immigrants like herself included. For Alex, being in a supportive and accepting environment has been crucial to her career growth.
Marcel’s path at Social Factor is a story of passion, growth, and opportunity. With a background in marketing, client communication, and content creation. Marcel knew the direction he wanted to take his career. However, he was eager to explore a side role where he could utilize his language skills. In 2023, he began with a temporary position at SF, which quickly transitioned to part-time, and by September, he was promoted to Lead Community Moderator.
Throughout his journey, Marcel found mentorship and support from Beenish S., Senior Social Care Manager, who helped guide him as he navigated the path from a temporary employee to a full-time role. “Beenish was and still is incredible in mentoring me throughout my career,” Marcel says. “She has been a constant source of support and has shaped my career at SF.”
Marcel credits SF’s culture as one of the reasons why he thrives in a remote work environment. “Even though I’ve never met most of my coworkers in person, it feels like we’re all working side-by-side. SF does a fantastic job making our virtual environment feel personal and connected.”
When we asked Marcel and Alex for advice on advancing a career or exploring new opportunities at Social Factor, they both emphasized the importance of growth and openness.
Marcel advises, “Always ask for feedback. Whether you’re looking to grow professionally or personally, feedback is invaluable. Be open to change and be willing to learn. Don’t hesitate to reach out to other departments to explore new areas of interest. I’ve had the chance to shadow different teams, and the opportunity to learn and grow at SF is endless.” Marcel also adds, “What started as a side hustle turned into a full-time role, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunities. If you find something you love, it’ll never feel like you’re working. If you are looking to develop your career, SF is a great place to grow”
Alex echoes a similar sentiment, offering advice for pursuing roles at SF. “Familiarize yourself with brands that resonate with you — the ones you love or find interesting. Understanding a brand’s voice is imperative, especially for roles in moderation and engagement, as it ensures genuine interactions. SF has been brilliant in helping me develop my career. I’ve had the opportunity to work with two very different brands, both with their own distinct voice. This has allowed me to explore all sides of moderation and expand my skill set. I would highly recommend SF for anyone looking to grow in their career, especially because the Social Care team truly delivers on its support and development.”
At Social Factor, we’re committed to helping every team member grow, both personally and professionally. While we’re highlighting career development this November, there’s always room for you to grow here — no matter the time of year. If you’re looking for a place to thrive, explore the current opportunities on our Careers Page and see where your next chapter could begin.
